Catherine “Kitty” Hanat

Catherine Hanat

Associate Attorney

A double military brat from the DC area, Catherine “Kitty” Hanat went to college at St. Johns College in Annapolis, MD, where she studied the Great Books Program. After college, she returned to Virginia and worked as a systems engineer before pursuing a lifelong dream of going to law school.

Kitty went to George Mason Scalia Law, where she served on the Civil Rights Law Journal and the Executive Board of the Trial Advocacy Association. While attending law school there, she competed in a number of Trial Advocacy competitions and organized the 2024 John L. Costello Trial Advocacy Competition.

Kitty realized she wanted to do family law after interning for Judge Frogale in the Alexandria Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court while still in law school. She was drawn to family law by her interest in litigation, the opportunities to advocate, and the ability to make a real difference to people going through the court system.  As someone whose parents both come from blended families, she is especially passionate about resolving custody disputes in ways that are healthy for clients and their children.

After graduating law school in 2024, she realized she wanted to stay in the Alexandria legal community and looked for opportunities to pursue her interest in family law in the Old Town Alexandria area.

Kitty has experience trying cases and motion in both Circuit Courts and Juvenile and Domestic Relations Courts throughout Northern Virginia.

When not practicing law, Kitty coaches trial advocacy teams at George Mason Scalia Law school and takes her dogs on trail runs.
